Let It Die

Tentatively he steps onto the stage,
Unsure of what is to come his legs buckle under their own weight,
They are only lifted by the forklift of determination,
The knowledge that it must be tonight,
The knowledge that it must end tonight,
And so by taking new and different strides,
He lets the dream die.

Tentatively he walks away from addiction,
Unsure of what can be done to salvage hope of reclaiming that past,
It can only be lifted by luck and sweet circumstance,
And so it goes that it must be tonight,
He must hibernate that fable tonight,
The one that was always far from sight,
He lets the dream die.

Tentatively he settles for what he knows,
Unsure why he never thought to advance what he does best,
It was lifted despite stubbornness and psychological blindness,
So all is not so lost tonight,
A new dawn lets in much more light,
For this one he can surely fight,
He lets the new dream rise.
